Theresa Phondo (born Theresa Dzanjalimodzi, February 1995) is a Malawian gospel and Afro-R&B singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, and public servant.
Background: Born in Northern Malawi (Tumbuka), raised in Lilongwe in a family of seven. Became a teenage mother at 16. Holds a Bachelor’s in Business Management & Entrepreneurship and a Master’s in International Relations (University of East London).
Music career: Started with Zathu Band in 2016. Went solo around 2021. Breakthrough hit: “Blessings” (2022), one of Malawi’s most-streamed gospel songs on Spotify with global attention. Later releases include her self-titled EP (2024), Faith Hope Love (2025), and Kingdom Energy (2026). Signed with ONErpm. Won Female Artist of the Year at the Maso Awards (2025).
Other roles: Co-founder of Hillcrest Trading (maize milling and related businesses). Served as Administrative Assistant to the Chief Strategy Advisor to the President of Malawi.
Personal life: Married to Bob Phondo (2019); they have three children. Strong Christian faith is central to her work and message.
